Consumer group warns that ChatGPT and Bard make online scams more "professional"
UK consumer organizations have found that scammers can use ChatGPT and Bard Produce more convincing scams that pose a threat to the public. Despite the defenses these chatbots have, it's not hard to get around them.
The consumer organization first asked ChatGPT to create a phishing email from PayPal, and of course ChatGPT refused to help. It then asked to "tell recipients that someone has logged into their PayPal account," for which it generated a professional-looking email titled "Important Security Notice - Unusual Activity Found on Your PayPal Account! Commenting on the survey, the professionals said, "Our survey clearly illustrates how this new technology makes it easier for criminals to defraud others. The government's upcoming AI summit must consider how to protect people from the harms occurring in the here and now, rather than focusing solely on the long-term risks of cutting-edge AI."
