Former OpenAI researcher: AI competition heats up in 2024, it's dangerous to go back in
ChatGPT core R&D scientist, former OpenAI researcher, and two of the authors of "Why Greatness Can't Be Planned," noted that 2024Artificial IntelligenceThe competition seems to be getting hotter. With so many people rushing into AI right now, it's dangerous to jump on the "bandwagon".
General artificial intelligence customers to start a new "emergence" cycle, AI for life to give a new definition, 2024 AI artificial intelligence will be how to develop, and how to deeply change our lives?
At the 2024 Fudan University School of Management New Year's Forum on January 21, Kenneth Stanley and Joel Lehman, ChatGPT core R&D scientists, former OpenAI fellows, and authors of "Why Greatness Can't Be Planned," and Prof. Dou Yifan, engaged in a discussion around AI in a "Cloud Discussion".
Joel Lehman said that it is difficult to accurately predict where the development of AI technology will go, and it seems that the competition in the field of artificial intelligence will become more heated in 2024. Joel Lehman believes that if the barriers to entry for AI are lowered and everyone can apply big models, people will try more ideas to unlock more new applications, and the competition will become more intense for individual innovators.
"Suddenly it seems like everyone is connected to AI, which is a sign of oversaturation." Kenneth Stanley pointed out that in 2024 we face a big question, that is, whether artificial intelligence will continue the momentum of the previous development, or there will be some slowdown, is currently unknown. In his opinion, too many people are rushing into the field of AI right now, and there is a danger in pushing into the "wave", "If you're really, really good at it, that's probably a good idea, because obviously it's a lucrative field. But if you're not convinced that you're the best in the world, it can be very dangerous because it's the best in the world competing with you in this field."
Kenneth Stanley's advice to young people is that if they want to conduct broad-based research involving creative exploration and innovation, they can move in a less targeted but more creative direction. Academician He Jifeng, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Huake Zhigu Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, during his keynote speech, also said that the current development speed of AI is much faster than imagined.AI is closely related to the real economy, which is mainly manifested in three areas: digital twins, smart factories, and industrial Internet.
According to He Jifeng, as AI continues to change human society, people should specialize in their own strengths and areas of expertise, constantly improve their professionalism, and think about how to apply AI to their professions to improve the efficiency of their output. At the same time, one should keep receiving new information and embracing new changes to expand one's career and reach out to more people and industries.
Professor Lu Xiongwen, dean of the School of Management at Fudan University, also said that if artificial intelligence is applied on a large scale, then China's industrial upgrading will become an important growth engine for the global economy.
